Monica Vettor winery has started in 2020, a year that without any doubt we will not forget very easily and which has indelibly marked our lives. We remember it as the year of Covid, that damned virus that took away many loved ones from us, which changed our lifestyle, our way of thinking and also our way of facing an increasingly uncertain future.

Despite this, there are people, like Monica Vettor, who had projects and dreams in the drawer, and perhaps it was this sense of precariousness, which remained with us, that pushed them to take new paths; the producer, who had been cultivating her personal idea of a winery for years, launches into this new adventure, she leaves the family winery to pursue her philosophy and vision of winemaking.
Between San Foca e San Quirino

The winery is based in San Foca, a small hamlet of San Quirino, in Monica’s house who, after purchasing it, made it her own by personalizing it and using only carefully selected recycled materials, not only for their history, but above all for the meaning and personal connection: nothing is left to chance, even the natural environment that surrounds it has a lot of importance, its precious biodiversity must be maintained and preserved, every flower, shrub, plant or tree has a close link with the uniqueness of the place and creates an even stronger connection with Monica’s personality.
The initial 10 hectares of vineyard, which will become 13 in 2024, partly surround the cellar, others are a few km further north. All the vineyards are within the Grave DOC, more precisely in the area to the north of the denomination, what I like to call as the “Alte Grave”. Here there is a unique terrain, the soil of alluvial origin given by the Cellina, Meduna and Tagliamento rivers, which with their floods, over the millennia, have brought and deposited calcareous-dolomite material: the Carnic Prealps frame the surrounding landscape, protecting it from the cold winds from the North and creating a well-ventilated and cool climate, all combined with periodic rains, sometimes abundant, which the mixed grain of the soil manages to drain well.
What for many, at first glance, might seem like a desolate land made of stones and little else, for Monica is the essence of her land, its strength, its simple elegance which is enhanced with its wines.
Prosecco Rosè Millesimato Brut with its bright and elegant pale pink, with the fine and persistent perlage, the refined notes of small red fruits, the floral hints and the minerality, fresh and enveloping on the palate, proves to be balanced and long in the finish. This wine not only contains the pure essence of a territory that is not easy to work with, but expresses the strength, tenacity, elegant refinement with delicate simplicity of Monica’s philosophy: an all-female team, with the exception of the agronomist, the only man.
Monica Vettor’s wines and their identity

Pinot Grigio has adapted well to this terroir, expressing all its power and enhancing all its qualities, without being superb, maintaining elegance and character. With an intense golden yellow color, with slight coppery reflections, it gives us light notes of flint, crunchy fruit, slightly floral and some barely perceptible hints of citrus on the nose, we can feel its personality on the palate, the flavor and minerality are well balanced and make the sip pleasant and persistent, recalling the varietal scents with the aftertaste.

Monica Vettor’s wines are material, vertical, identifying wines, they are a walk in the desolate lands of the “Magredi” on a spring day, a journey through the 5 senses: the touch of the stones under your feet and the warmth of the sun that shines upon us warms the face, the view with the gaze that wanders towards the plain to the south or towards the mountains to the north from which a light fresh breeze arrives which brings with it all the scents of nature: the sense of smell, the hearing with the music of nature, the creaking of pebbles, the rustle of vegetation and the singing of birds, and finally the taste of sipping a glass of Rosé or Pinot Grigio.
A glimpse into the future
There are many projects for the future, first of all the “Pupà”, a Merlot, which tells 80 years of history of a family, that of his partner Attilio, who together with his children Vittoria and Guglielmo, despite not being an active part in the winery, remain real cardinal points for Monica that help her not to lose sight of her goals and support her in moments of difficulty.
The all-female winery, pink with blue veins like the dawn of a new day, is only at the beginning of a long and lasting story that will be written day by day in the years to come.
